As part of an Interior Design research class I took with UC Berkeley Extension, I was assigned to conduct a research project on a seminal piece of architecture and its architect (must pick from list provided by the professor). I chose the California Academy of Sciences as it was a local SF building that I could explore for the first time for this project. In my final presentation, as background research, I profiled the history of the Cal Academy and architect Renzo Piano, and studied how different facets of Piano’s “high tech architecture” style (e.g. form, function, design process) manifested differently in projects throughout his career. For the main presentation focus I analyzed design elements of the California Academy, focusing on his specific green design techniques.
